"The Run that Cares for the Runner"

For over thirty years the Rhody Run has become one of the Northwest's best-loved races. Although we've grown a lot since the first Rhody Run in 1979, this race is still very much a community event. From the hundreds of volunteers who help out as race officials to the throngs of local residents who line the streets to cheer on every runner, we are both proud of and humbled by the enthusiastic community support that we receive year after year. Without this support the Rhody Run would be impossible.
 

The Rhody Run is organized and produced by the Port Townsend Marathon Association, a charitable non-profit organization whose mission is to foster and encourage runners of all ages, both in the school system and in the community at large. Nearly all the work that goes into making this race happen is done by volunteers. And proceeds from the Rhody Run are returned to the community in the form of scholarships and assistance to both individual runners and to the programs that sponsor them. 

Our goal is to produce a run where all runners, champion and beginner alike, can feel as if it's their race. And we try very hard to live up to our motto: "The Run that Cares for the Runner". 2011 News Release - PTMA Contributes to Numerous Recreation Institutions!

Race Director Jennifer Little announced this week that financial awards are going to 12 youth groups and recreation institutions in the county. It marks the largest such awards in the 33-year history of Rhody Run. In the past surplus funds from the annual event supported high school track and cross-country programs, scholarships for youth attending athletic training camps, and supported various other high school athletic programs.
